The 10 Best Cheap Sim Racing Seats: The Ultimate List

I have compiled a list of 10 chairs that fit a wide range of needs. All players are different, have different lives, spaces, budgets and needs, so with the 10 I have chosen, I have tried to cover different types of chairs so that there is something for every type of racer.

So, what is the best cheap sim racing seat? The GTR Simulator GTA was number 1 across a wide range of categories. Designed and tested by professional racers (both virtual and real world), it offers a complete package when it comes to overall feel and design as well as being fully adjustable.

The 10 best cheap sim racing seats are:

  1. GTR Simulator GTA
  2. Openwheeler GEN2
  3. Playseat Challenge
  4. RESPAWN-200
  5. Playseat Revolution
  6. Conquer Racing Simulator Seat
  7. DX Racer PS/COMBO/200
  8. SecretLab Titan
  9. RaceRoom RR3055
  10. FK Automotive Gamesitz

The first one is not for you? Maybe you want something that looks different? You need something cheaper? Let’s move on to have a look at all of chairs on the list and see if there is something there to suit you.

What To Look For In A Sim Racing Seat

It is important before making an investment like this to figure out what you want or need from your seat. There are a few things to be thinking about before you take the plunge, and all have been considered in our final list.

  1. Budget. It is of course obvious that more money means more toys but sometimes not always the best experience. We have gathered a range of cheap options that are the best in their respective class. All our chairs range from $150-500 so keep in mind if you’re looking for the high-end gear then this list may not be for you.
  2. Will I fit? I see you sniggering, but this can be an issue. Have you ever got into a new car and not adjusted the seat when driving? The same can be said for sim racing. Pedals, wheel height, recline. All these things need to be taken into consideration for your own body shape, available space and TV position so that you can have the optimum driving experience and more importantly for the health of your body.
  3. Functionality. As great as some of these chairs are to race with, some of them are not much good for anything else. Although it’s great to feel like a racing driver all the time, when you actually have to do your real-life job maybe something that you can wheel around and get behind a desk might be handy.
  4. Other accessories. You can of course game from any chair with just a controller however, if you are going to do that some of these chairs will have features surplus to requirements. Also, on the flip side, if you are planning to buy, or already do have, accessories like a wheel, pedals, or a gear stick etc. there will be some chairs that are better suited for attaching your equipment. Keep in mind that buying these will also increase the price.  Also, some of these chairs may need to be assembled, so if you are anti-DIY then look for something that is easy to assemble.
  5. Appearance. There is never any point buying something if you don’t like the look of it. Keep in mind that most models come in a range of colours, but fabrics are far more difficult to change, and so are designs.

It comes with a fully adjustable seat that you can recline as well as a pedal stand and wheel stand that can be adjusted so that the angle and length both suit the player. The frame is made from steel and seat from synthetic leather that both should last you for many races to come, as well as being firm but comfy to keep your body well supported.

It comes in 5 different colours and should you want the chair but with less framework then the company offers a range of alternatives to suit the player.

You will have to assemble the frame around the chair should you want one, but all parts are included, and installation isn’t too difficult. Versatility is one of this product’s minus points, with it being dedicated solely to sim racing and, while it may not be the cheapest, for what it is there really is nothing better on the market today.

PROS:

  • Fully adjustable seat and stands
  • Lots of colours and designs
  • Comfortable

CONS:

  • A little expensive
  • Not very functional outside of gaming

2. Openwheeler GEN2

This chair narrowly missed out on top spot and could have, in all honestly, shared the top honours. This chair is also fully adjustable and can be made to fit almost anybody.  Fully reclining seat, adjustable wheel and pedal mounts assure this, and the best part is the ease of installation.

This chair doesn’t have many parts and can be easily disassembled and stowed away in most storage spaces.

This seat is made from fabric rather than leather and comes in 6 different colours. It also has great back support, though one minor quibble may be that (like the GTR Simulator GTA) it could perhaps do with some more neck support.

It’s price is reasonable if not a little expensive, however if you are looking to buy at this price point, choosing between this and the GTR Simulator chair is really a matter of personal opinion as they of a very similar standard.

It suffers from the same functionality issues as the GTR with it also being a dedicated sim chair that requires assembly, but don’t let that put you off as this is as close as it gets to having a real racing car in your room!

PROS:

  • Seat is fully adjustable
  • Easy to assemble
  • Adjustable pedal and wheel mounts
  • Comfortable

CONS:

  • A little expensive
  • Not very functional outside of gaming

3. Playseat Challenge

The budget option on our list, this chair may strike you as very cheap looking however don’t let that fool you, you do get a lot of bang for your buck.

Easy to move, easy to store and easy to adjust, the chair does not require the space that the others do, and can be fully folded away in seconds. It has a great build quality made from steel and fabric, with built in lumbar support to help those that may need it. Additionally, it is adjustable to suit a range of heights.

It supports 3rd party accessories such as wheels and pedals but doesn’t have a dedicated gear stick mount. It also only comes in either blue or black and, despite its best efforts, for very long sessions it can get a little uncomfortable.

A little more versatile than the first 2 chairs with it being light-weight and easy to move around, however it is still designed solely for racing.  For the price, if you are looking for an entry level rig, or something that you can use casually, look no further than the Playseat Challenge.

PROS:

  • Price; it’s good value
  • Easy to fold away
  • Fully adjustable

CONS:

  • Looks a little cheap
  • Gets uncomfortable after prolonged use

4. RESPAWN-200

* Check Price Here *

This is the first of the “racing style” gamer chairs on the list (to be clear, it’s a gaming chair). Ergonomically designed, coming in a range of nine colourways and even available to players in fabric or leather material options, this is a chair that offers a great gaming experience crossed with a functional chair.

The chairs include a height-adjusting mechanism, side recliners, 4D arm rests, and removable lumbar and neck support cushions so that players can be in complete comfort while racing or working from home.

The key to this chair is its functionality. You can easily switch from work to game mode without any hassle and of course this offers much more value. Coming in at an affordable price, you won’t get more for any less.

The obvious drawbacks are no mounts for any extra accessories. However, should you be playing using only a game pad then this might be a better option for you.

PROS:

  • Very functional
  • Comfortable and ergonomically designed
  • Price

CONS:

  • You can’t attach any accessories to it
  • More a gaming chair than sim racing chair

5. Playseat Revolution

The second of the Playseat chairs to feature in this list, this is the mid-range model for the brand. This chair is easily assembled and has a unique foldable design so that it can be stowed away quickly and easily.

The seat frame is made from silver coated steel and the pedals and wheel mounts can be fully adjusted to suit all types of players. The ride height is also pretty good, not too close to the floor and the chair material itself is vinyl. It’s designed for comfort, so you can game for long periods while not having to worry about any back issues, despite again not having neck support.

The mounts are compatible with all wheels and pedals on the market which is huge bonus and build quality is top notch with no wobbling or design issues.

The price is at the higher end of the budget range, and you don’t get as much for it. The seat itself can only be made adjustable with an added extra, and there is no gear stick mount included. Also, not being multi-functional is a real issue as spending this much on a chair just for gaming may be more than most are willing to spend.

PROS:

  • High quality
  • Easily foldable
  • Compatible with all wheels and pedals

CONS:

  • Price is a little expensive

6. Conquer Racing Simulator Seat

Back to a rig set up, and a company that has come into the market with their first sim racing seat, Conquer. Built on a steel frame and with adjustable wheel, stick and pedal mounts this chair is ideal for those players who want an entry level rig set up.

The chair can be fully reclined, comes in three different colours and is made from fabric with extra lumbar support but lacks – like the first two chairs – any neck support. This chair – also like the first two – will need some assembly, but all parts are included.

The seat’s main plus point is its price. At only $280 you will be very hard pressed to find this many features at a better price but again functionality is an issue, with it being specifically designed for sim racing.

Also, the steering wheel angle can’t be changed, it sits very low to the ground and the steering support itself can be a little wobbly. Build quality can be an issue, but with all that said, for the price, it really is wonderful value.

PROS:

  • Price
  • Comfortable for extended use
  • Easy to assemble

CONS:

  • Some build quality issues
  • Low seat
  • No other design options

7. DX Racer PS/COMBO/200

From the guys at DX racer comes the PS/COMBO/200. This is a set that bundles together to bring you one of the higher quality options on the market. The seat is designed for long-term gaming and with the leather and cold cure foam build, it has a real luxury feel to it. The steel frame is sturdy and is easy to put together and take apart to store.

Everything is fully adjustable from seat height and length, to pedals and wheel angle, and it also has a gear stick mount included. It can be purchased in a range of colours, so it suits racers of all sizes and tastes.

There are a few issues with this chair however: The price is on the high end. It also only supports certain wheels on the wheel mount which could be an issue for those not wanting to invest much more money.

Also, at this price, having a mechanism that doesn’t allow quick storage is a bit of a let-down and this particular model doesn’t have the functionality of some of their other models. This is definitely a high-quality chair, but with regards to value there are better options.

PROS:

  • Fully adjustable
  • Luxury feel
  • Great build quality, and range of designs

CONS:

  • Price
  • Not compatible with all accessories
  • Too many added extras needed

8. SecretLab Titan

The 2nd of the office/gaming chair options (after the RESPAWN-200) this is aimed more towards the higher end of the market. Made from premium quality material and designed to give maximum comfort to the player as well as last so long that you may never need to buy a chair again, the guys at SecretLab have been designing premium quality chairs for years.

They come in a countless range of designs and they have something for every taste. The chairs are completely adjustable to suit any set up, and can be used for both working from home and gaming.

These chairs of course don’t support add on features like a wheel or pedals, and they are also on the high-end of the price range. If, however you are looking for a premium product to use while you work and game, then there really is nowhere else to get your chair.

PROS:

  • Huge range of designs and colours
  • Functional
  • Luxury product with amazing comfort

CONS:

  • Price
  • Not a dedicated racing chair so not able to attach accessories

9. RaceRoom RR3055

* Check Price Here *

The RaceRoom RR3055 is another rig set up that offers players a real race-car feel for not too much money. The seat is made from synthetic leather and is set on a steel frame and ergonomically designed to give players optimum comfort while playing.

It only comes in one design and is not too easy to assemble. All parts are included, but for a chair at this price point it’s hard to justify such a complex installation.

Also, with no gear stick mount, and having a non-adjustable wheel mount is a big negative because it leads to a suboptimal driving position for most racers. All parts are of good quality and are stable, but some more freedom would be more ideal. The wheel mount also only supports certain wheels which could be an issue for some players.

Given its price, there are some better value options available for players that want to have something like this seat.

PROS:

  • Good build quality
  • Very comfortable

CONS:

  • Not easily constructed
  • Price
  • Some parts on the rig can’t be adjusted

10. FK Automotive Gamesitz

Finally, last but by no means least is the FK Gamesitz. This is another ultra-cheap alternative that was designed to compete with the Playseat Challenge. It is a great option for those who want something cheap to get into sim racing. It is a faux leather adjustable chair built on a steel frame, that is good quality and sturdy.

The pedals and wheel mounts however are not adjustable, and the seat can’t be reclined. It also only comes in one design, with a rudimentary gear shift holder.

At this price, compared to the Playseat Challenge there are a lot of drawbacks: It is not easy to store, it isn’t designed with comfort in mind and although the look is better, the Playseat Challenge offers greater value and functionality.

However, for players that want a more racing look this is the cheap alternative for you.

PROS:

  • Price

CONS:

  • Non adjustable
  • No extra designs or colours

Conclusion

It is all down to the player to decide what is the best option for them. Make sure you do your research, and budget properly so that you can get the best value for what you pay.

Try to take into consideration comfort and chair longevity because, with a purchase like this value can also come from how much use you can get out of it. Hopefully you can use some of the information we have provided to help you make an informed decision that will bring years of racing fun for yourself or whoever you will buy the chair for.
